Piyas Biswas is a multimedia journalist and documentary photographer based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. His journey with photography began as a hobby, but his passion for storytelling through the lens quickly turned it into a career.
Piyas focuses on documenting humanity, shedding light on critical issues such as climate change, political conflict, and social injustice. He uses his photography to bring attention to the struggles of ordinary people and the impact of global and local crises on their lives.
Since starting his career as a freelance photographer in 2016, Piyas has worked with Newsbangla24 and contributed to UCA News (a Thailand-based news agency), The Daily Star (one of Bangladesh’s leading newspapers) and SOPA Images. He is also the founder of FAITH FRAME, a media agency dedicated to impactful storytelling.
Piyas received his foundational training in photography from Pathshala South Asian Media Institute in 2015 and graduated in photography from Counter Foto in 2018. He further advanced his expertise by earning a Diploma in Visual Journalism from the Asian Center for Journalism at Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines, supported by a Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung scholarship.
His work has been published in renowned national and international outlets, including The Guardian, The Sun, Reuters, The Wall Street Journal, CNN International, Rest of World, BBC Bangla, Deutsche Welle, Yahoo News, MSN, Forbes, The Diplomat, In These Times, Asia Democracy Chronicles, FairPlanet, UCA News, The Daily Star and many more.
He excels at building genuine connections with his subjects, especially children and adolescents, ensuring authentic and impactful visuals. With a diverse project portfolio, he has captured spaces, environments, people, and communities, demonstrating adaptability. He has collaborated with INGOs and NGOs, crafting compelling visual narratives that align with communication, branding, and advocacy goals, working with organizations like Caritas Bangladesh, Care International, UNICEF Bangladesh, UNOPS, The World Bank, Swisscontact, and British Council Bangladesh.
